Observation Narrative
South-facing slope, 40 m north of Rt. 39 and opposite entrance to Blowing Springs Campground. The vegetation in this plot, characterized by a mixed forest of sugar maple, oaks and hickories, is typical of submesic, moderately fertile sites on limestone and subcalcareous substrates in west central and northwest Virginia. The importance and diversity of hickory species in this plot is somewhat greater than in other parts of this stand, but is quite representative.
